William Patrick Doherty (Uncle Billy), 80, of Dorchester, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 as a result of a long and reoccurring battle with Cancer.
Born on January 28, 1940 in Somerville, MA, he was the beloved son of the late Cornelius and Mary Doherty, of Donegal, Ireland.
He was the loving brother of Winifred Marron of Weymouth and Catherine Connolly of Quincy. Billy is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Billy dearly. Many of Billy’s friends called him Dexter and he was extremely fond of his Dorchester heritage.
William was an avid sports fan and enjoyed socializing and playing cards at Dorchester’s finest establishments, particularly the 12 Bens.
Named Dexter by his friends, Billy will be fondly remembered wearing his Scaly Cap, always willing to lend a listening ear for anyone who needed one, and was never afraid to put his name in a square.
Billy worked for many years at the Green Shoe Company in Boston and was a member of the Negotiation Committee.
Most importantly, Billy loved the company of his family, friends, and the residences of the Peabody /Englewood apartments where he lived.
The Marron and Connolly families would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his friends, Boston Elder Services, and the staff at Marina Bay Nursing Home in Quincy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 11a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday January 2, 2021 at the McHoul Family Funeral Home, 354 Adams Street, Dorchester, MA.
Burial will be private.
