Myrtle May Whorms, lovingly known as "Urkel, daughter of Leslie Whorms and Margret Matilda Lambert was born on May 24, 1926, in Mitchell Town, Jamaica. Myrtle departed after a long and rewarding life on April 27, 2023. Myrtle attended Primary School in Jamaica along with siblings, Boysie & Veronica. As a young woman, Myrtle made dressmaking her profession. She would often correct us, stating "I am a seamstress". She enjoyed making and designing both men's and women's clothing. She especially loved making "frocks".
In Jamaica, Myrtle joined St. John's Free Baptist Church where her love of God instilled qualities of a
lifetime. While living and working in Jamaica Myrtle had four adoring children - Discelle, Barbara,
Trevor and Eileen.
Myrtle migrated to Boston in the early '70s, where she would find work as a dietitian food service
worker, retiring after 15 years of service at Beth Isreal Hospital in Boston, MA.
Myrtle accepted Christ and became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. As a woman of God,
she served faithfully for more than 30 years. She served on the Morning Star Senior Ministry Group.
Now, if you knew Mother Whorms, and needed words of encouragement or spiritual healing, she
would recite a scripture passage from her heart. At Morning Star, Myrtle would also meet her nearest and dearest friends making everyone she met feel like family. Myrtle filled our hearts with love and fun memories. Her favorite meal to cook every Saturday was Chicken Foot Soup, no matter the weather. Her favorite dessert was Cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake to be exact, knowing that she was not supposed to have sweets.
Our hearts are heavy as this amazing Family Matriarch has left footprints on our hearts that we will
forever cherish. We praise God for the life, incredible spiritual journey, and the many families and friends whose lives she touched.
Myrtle was proceeded in death by her son, Trevor Charlton Sr., and siblings Boysie Whorms and
Veronica Puranda.
We love and miss you for a lifetime, Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandmother. Myrtle shall long be
remembered by her children, Discelle Charlton Sr. (Enid), Barbara Richards (Arnold), Eileen Bayliss
(Gozden), Daughter-in-law, Marjorie Charlton; 15 grandchildren and host of great-grandchildren, and
a countless number of families and friends.
