March 8, 1964 - August 26, 2021
Pedro Couto Centeio, known affectionately by many as Fidjinho, was born on March 8, 1964 in Atalia Fogo in Cape Verde to his mother Justina Teixeira Centeio and father, Manuel DosSantos Centeio. He was “Kode” to five brothers and one sister. He moved to America in May of 1979. He began working at Anthony’s Pier 4 restaurant at the age of 14, and has been working for the restaurant as a chef for the past 43 years. Hardworking, he worked even on weekends. On June 27th 1987, he married Maria Tavares Centeio and has been married for 34 years. Together they raised 5 strong daughters and created a beautiful, loving environment for their family. He loved days when his family was all together and playing with his only grandchild, Tommy. Pedro was selfless and always put others before himself. He took care of anything his family needed. He was a provider that worked endless nights to make sure his loved ones were cared for. He cared for his parents up until the day they passed. In most recent years, he looked forward to Sundays when his siblings would come together, drink Apothic Red wine, and spend time with his late mother, Dju. He enjoyed caring for God's creatures and raising his beloved pets which included a vast array of fish, doves, homing pigeons, and dogs. He also enjoyed caring for his plants and cooking. He loved listening to music, watching videos from Cabo Verde, and spending hours on the phone with the many, many, people who loved him. He continued to support and remain strong for his family through his recent cancer diagnosis. Even on days when he felt weak, he put on a brave face for us. Not a day went by that he didn’t muster up strength to care for his pigeons or feed his fish. He is survived by his wife, Maria Tavares Centeio. His five daughters; Emilyann Tavares Centeio, Justina Tavares Centeio, Ashley Ann Centeio, Rashelle Tavares Centeio, and Aaliyah Tavares Centeio, his Grandson Thomas Manuel Centeio, 5 siblings, and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is now reunited with his late brother Joao Centeio, and his parents Justina and Manuel Centeio. Pedro will be remembered for the love, courage, and strength that he shared with everyone in his life, and will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
