    Mr. Lowell V. Kingsley

    September 5, 1918 - August 1, 2017

KINGSLEY, Lowell V. Former Headmaster of the Kingsley School in Boston Lowell Vincent Kingsley of Dorchester died peacefully at 98 years old on August 1, 2017, surrounded by his family. Son of the late Howard and Edith Kingsley, Lowell leaves behind his wife and soulmate of nearly 74 years Charlotte Lindenman Kingsley and his two sons and their wives: Christopher G. Kingsley and his wife Leslie of Sharon, and Victor L. Kingsley and his wife Juanita of Dedham, as well as his grandchildren: Andrew and Amanda Kingsley. He is also survived by other adored extended family across generations in Massachusetts and other states, and in London UK. With humility and quiet dignity, Lowell left a legacy of munificence treasured by countless children, teachers, parents, friends, and neighbors. From 1948 to 1985, Lowell was Headmaster of the Kingsley School in Boston, and his wife Charlotte was a highly-regarded teacher there. Working in the early days of what is now called "special education," the Kingsley School's talented, innovative teaching team explored and often succeeded with experimental ways to teach young people who had not succeeded in traditional classrooms. Anecdotes abound regarding the sometimes life-changing impacts Lowell and the Kingsley School had on their lives. The school continues now as the Kingsley Montessori School in Boston's Back Bay and carries on Lowell's unwavering commitment to educating each child as the unique individual s/he is. Up until his death, Lowell kept in close contact with long-standing Head of School Renee DuChainey-Farkes, as the school was always of paramount importance in his life. Lowell and Charlotte felt blessed during their elder years by an amazing array of wonderful, supportive neighbors and by fellow church members who looked out for them and greatly enhanced their lives. A celebration of Lowell's remarkable life will be held in September at the First Parish Church on Meeting House Hill in Dorchester where he was a life-long member and found happiness and spiritual strength. Please contact the church for information on date and time. www.firstparishdorchester.org or 617-436-0527. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made either to: First Parish Dorchester, 10 Parish Street, Dorchester, MA 02122 or to Kingsley Montessori School, 26 Exeter Street, Boston, MA 02116 Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the McHoul Family Funeral Home, 354 Adams St., Dorchester, MA 02122
